Guestbook

After reading a few of our guests' comments we're sure you'll be eager to book your stay with us!

We're so grateful for the lovely folk who've passed through Tangier Quay and have taken the time to leave us a review, thank you.

It was a great stay. Melanie was a super hostess and the place was perfect.

Sarah, Switzerland,

My husband booked a three day break to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary. He could not have chosen a better place. The boathouse is stunning, beautifully designed yet retaining so much character full of interesting nautical artefacts. It’s ideal for a couple and has everything you could possibly need during your stay. The views are spectacular across the river to Fowey. The sound of water lapping against the walls is like heavenly music and so relaxing. We went for several very interesting walks. Including taking the Saints Way to PolKerris where we had a slap up Sunday lunch in the pub before hiking back. There is a pub next door with a very good menu, and lots of eateries in Fowey. I highly recommend Tangier Quay Boathouse, for anyone wanting to get away from it all, yet at the same time have all the amenities you need close at hand. We will be back.

Peter & Sharon, Newton Abbot, England,

So, me and my wife visited Tangier Quay in mid-October 2023. This was our first time to visit this place and are already looking forward to coming back next summer.

We thought long and hard to find something we didn’t like about our stay, or something that could have been improved and there was nothing! Melanie has thought of your every need whilst staying here, there’s nothing you’ll need. We found the accommodation just the right size for the 2 of us and very romantic (especially the log burner).

I like fishing and was able to sit in a comfy chair whilst dangling my line in the sea, oh and with a glass of wine in my hand. My wife enjoyed sitting outside on a clear night admiring the huge display of stars as there is little light pollution in that area.

Polruan is a small village, with a village shop, with The Winkle Picker shop on your doorstep selling a variety of goods. There are also 2 good pubs in Polruan within a few paces away. The Russell Inn was lively and right up our street for a style of pub. Cracking music and interesting locals. The other pub is The Lugger Inn is more of a “foodie” pub and we eat in there 2 out of our 3 nights. Fish and chips the one night and mussels then other. They also have live music on in here from time to time.

Fowey is just a short ferry ride away across the river where there are more pubs and restaurants to chose from.

You will not be able to fault Tangier Quay. ITS AWESOME!

Barry & Sue, North Somerset, England,

My wife and I had a very enjoyable 3 night weekend break at the boathouse. Everything was clean, tidy and well kept. The view is lovely from the house and the outside patio area. Using the wood burner in the evening really does keep the accommodation nice and cosy. The cream tea welcome was very nice after the journey down.
The ferry to Fowey is close and runs regularly and is good value for money.
We will plan to visit again in the future for another relaxing weekend away.

Adrian & Karen, Gloucestershire, England,

Amazing little place in a great location. Polruan is sleepy but good access on the foot ferry to Fowey. Usually prefer a self check in, but Melanie is lovely and left us some tasty treats which were appreciated. The outside space is shared with the owners and we felt a bit exposed when some builders turned up unexpectedly, but the glass is tinted from the outside so you can't be seen. Melanie has thought of everything and, on top of an amazing place and location, this stay is up there with our Airbnb favourites.

Lisa & Adam, Selsey, England,

Such a brilliant place to unwind. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for looking after us.

Colin & Jenny, Suffolk, England,

This was our first time at this property but our fifth time in Polruan. This was by far the best place we have stayed. The location is beautiful, the decor is imaginative and the attention to detail has to be seen to be believed! Melanie is so welcoming and along with Stubbles and Sunshine they make the perfect hosts.

Cyril & Gill, Wirral, England,

Magic place, perfection in details. The location is unique, spotlessly clean, charming, and no detail has been overlooked to make your stay the best possible ever. Melanie is attentive and kind, ready to accommodate her guest's needs. Absolutely top!

Cliff & Barbara, Bedford, England,

A stunning place to stay, the most beautiful views and location. Melanie, Stubbles and Sunshine are lovely hosts too.

Ben & Leah, Bristol, England,

We loved the boathouse it was quaint quirky clean Melanie was a great host warm and welcoming left us a cream tea bottle of fizz tea coffee etc the main thing was the wonderful location so close to beach harbour pub shop etc we swam 3 times a day and loved the outdoor space to enjoy the amazing views of Fowey Harbour we will certainly be coming back .

Sue & Roger, Falmouth, Cornwall,

We had an amazing stay at the boathouse. The house is really beautifully done and is in a stunning setting, and Melanie was such a welcoming host. We also found that Fowey and Polruan were bustling without being too busy even in the summer holidays. 100% recommend!

Harriet & Lewis, Oxford, England,

Melanie met us coming off the little ferry from Fowey. The boat house is literally at the Quay. it really is as pretty as the photos. Melanie couldn't be any more friendly or helpful. very prompt with communications, and goes out of her way to help. The boathouse has stunning views, and the interior has a quality and little touches that you have to experience. It has everything you could ever need for your stay. Highly recommend the Boathouse and Melanie as a host .

Alistair & Vivienne, Newry, Northern Ireland,

Melanie's spot is such a gem! A perfect base for our three days to rest and relax, as well as exploring Fowey and the surrounding Cornwall coast. The attention to detail and design of the boathouse is just beautiful, and what a treat to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Melanie was a great host, very helpful and responsive and the house is stocked with all the amenities you need for a great stay! We'll be back!

Róisín & Laura, Dublin, Ireland,

Such a wonderful break and fantastic place. Everything you would need and the ferry to Fowey is a minute away. Thank you Melanie, sad to leave and happy to come back.

Paul & Nina, London, England,

Ciaran and I had an amazing time staying at the boathouse. The bed was super comfy (and I'm fussy!), and the cream tea on arrival was a really lovely touch. It made for the perfect brunch after a swim in the sea on our first morning. Mel & Stubbs were very accommodating and helpful with plenty of suggestions in things to do in the area.

Rebekah & Ciaran, Edinburgh, Scotland,

We stayed five days, it could have been many more days. It was a beautiful nest that we found, it was balm for our souls. We don't have to say much about the accommodation itself, all the other reviews reflect what we finally found. The view is a dream. Even if you lie in bed and open your eyes you can see the water, the boats, Fowey and hear the gulls and the water lapping. It's just soothing and you don't want to go away. We thank you, dear Melanie and Stubbes that you made this dream come true. Keep it up, stay as you are and you will put a smile on the faces of many guests.

Ulli & Cordelia, Germany,

Enjoyed a fabulous few days at the boathouse. Amazing location. Every little detail was thought of to make our stay comfortable, and Mel and Stubbles are lovely people. Highly recommend.

Carole & Donnchadh, Dublin, Ireland,

We had a wonderful time at Tangier Quay Boathouse. Lovely hosts who thought of everything that we could possibly need. Lovely freshly made scones with Cornish fresh cream & Jam A bottle of Prosecco in the fridge & white chocolate & milk chocolate cookies ready for own cup of tea. After a long drive, it was all perfect

Yvonne & Gemma, Essex, England,

Melanie and her husband were extremely friendly, gave great tips, and even on the street you enjoyed seeing each other. We were welcomed on our honeymoon with a bottle of sparkling wine and felt very welcome. Simply great! The boathouse is lovingly designed and maintained! Really an eye-catcher!! Small but nice and has everything you need to be happy. Located directly in the harbour, you could jump into the crystal clear and clean water from the house. The terrace allows you to enjoy private holidays in the harbour. We slept like gods and we felt extremely comfortable!! Absolutely best place to stay in Cornwall and was worth the difficult arrival!

Mario & Lou, Kirchberg, Switzerland,

What a beautiful location, with scenic views. The boat house was amazing, very clean and welcoming! We enjoyed our stay, thank you Melanie

We had a fantastic week at Tangier Quay Boathouse. The Boathouse is a wonderful place - cozy, homey , tastefully decorated with attention to detail and Melanie a caring, helpful and gracious host. Definitely a place to feel at home and come back to. We loved it!

Dagmar & Gottfried, Austria,

We had a magical stay at Tangier Quay Boathouse!! Can’t wait to return. A truly special corner of the world

Isabel & Matt, Camberwell, London, England,

We've just returned from a wonderful stay at the boathouse, it's even better in real life than it looks in the pictures. Although compact, which is part of it's charm, Melanie and Stubbles have thought of everything. The view is simply incredible and amazing to wake up to, the floor to ceiling windows are just amazing, yet at night it's just as charming with the fire lit. Thanks for all your help organising dinner and the late night ferry. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again.

Sezanne & Jason, Bradford upon Avon, England,

Great place for a peaceful getaway. Fabulous location- pub close by and easy to hop on the passenger ferry to Fowey too.

Max & Andy, Worcester, England,

We really enjoyed staying at Melanie‘s accommodation. It was a beautiful oasis in a beautiful area and just what the doctor ordered. We loved all the wee small touches like the welcome card and scones (with jam and clotted cream🤣👍) and the fire was perfect to finish each night, warming ourselves after long days walking and exploring this beautiful village and area. It didn’t disappoint. We would recommend this accommodation to anyone who just wants to relax and chill ‘off the beaten track’
We loved the feel of the accommodation as it was quite nautical and in keeping with its location. Octopus hangers, porthole windows, yard arm winch outside to create a lovely the maritime feel throughout the space. Thank you for hosting us xx

Pat & Sandra, Fort William, Scotland,

Our second stay at this bijou boathouse on the waterfront with the sounds of the sea has been another wonderful escape. The nearby walks are amazing and no need to use a car with nearby ferry a few steps away. Thank you ☺️

Ruth & Ray, Berkshire, England,

Really lovely place to stay. Exactly as photos, right on the quayside so beautiful views. Melanie was a great host, so responsive to my messages and so helpful. Even messaging me to say the home was available for early check in, and if she wasn’t available to contact her husband. Really stunning and such a different vibe air bnb to stay for a few nights. So nice to wake up to the beautiful views of Fowey whatever the weather had in store for us. Great location.

Jess & Nicholas, Worthing, England,

Lovely time right on the sea front , with some beautiful walks and a short ferry ride to Fowey with some equally enjoyable spots.

Jules & Jules, Devon & Worcestershire, England,

We had a lovely few days here. There are beautiful walks straight from the property. Being so close to the sea was magical.

Katy & Tim, Somerset, England,

We had a fantastic stay at the boathouse. the sunsets were incredible and the home was the perfect stay for 2. Melanie even dealt with a last minute booking whilst on holiday! The scones on arrival were a lovely surprise. We will definitely be back for a summer adventure.

Rob & Alex, Salisbury, England,

Polruan is a very friendly place and delightfully scenic. In January we found not a lot open and fortunately we’d taken food to eat in which we did mostly. Fowey had more shops and places to eat and was worth a day trip. It is though a lovely setting and being so close to the water was a real treat, if you open the skylight you can hear the waves during the night. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and found Melanie enormously helpful and responsive.

Linda & Glenn, London, England,

Mel & Stubbs we’re more than amazing and welcoming - staying as a single woman there to enjoy their beautiful boathouse while visiting friends felt both safe and comfy, truly all I’d wished for. It’s was nice they were so close to be available however felt private. Truly wish I could have stayed longer - last minute domestic circumstances changed. Mel & Stubbs made this easy for me. My only thing I would change would have more time to talk with both Mel & Stubbs since I felt we had much in common. A magical find for someone who’s truly travelled the globe. I’ll be be back if you’ll have me. Too much of a gem to share! Much love Caroline x

Caroline, London, England,

A beautiful Christmas stay, a wonderful sense of calm away from all the troubles of daily life.. the attention to detail and history crafted into the boathouse is amazing! Really enjoyed evenings sat by the fire and cold sea swimming 10 steps from the front door. The walks and surrounding views were fantastic and the boathouse sits proudly in the heart of it all. We were well looked after and we even received Christmas Cards and presents, thoroughly enjoyed our holiday the only problem was not booking our stay longer! ☺️

Luke & Amber, England,

I was looking for somewhere extra special for a significant birthday… Tangier Quay fitted the bill perfectly. Wow! What an incredible location…being able to listen to the sea bed was one of many highlights. I just loved it and will most definitely return.

Helen & Neil, England,

Melanie & Stubbles were amazing hosts! The location is gorgeous with some amazing local walks very close by. The Lugger inn pub (a 20 meter walk from back gate) did delicious fish and chips as takeaway. We just had the most wonderful time, it’s the best place to go to escape busy everyday life! It’s a true pocket of peace. Thankyou Stubbles and Mel for our wonderful stay! Our scones on arrival were amazing ! We will be back! X

Emily & Silas, London, England,

Melanie and Stubbles renovated boat house is definitely on the top of my favourite AirBnB's. The location was fantastic. The interior of the cottage was perfectly appointed with everything you could possibly need or want. The wood stove really made the place feel cozy, especially on the rainy, cool days. The convenient Ferry to Fowey is located just a few steps away which made it an easy trip to explore. Melanie was an exceptional host! Communication and hospitality was perfect. We can't wait to return again!

Christopher & Nathan, Essex, Massachusetts, U.S.A.,

Absolutely loved the boathouse! So cozy and the view is just amazing. We had everything we needed and there were some little luxuries left to welcome us which was such a nice touch. Great communication from the host too!

We loved our stay at the Boathouse - its gorgeous view, cozy interior and thoughtful touches made our trip one to remember. Thanks so much Melanie and Stubbles!

Martin & Diane, Folkestone, England,

Absolutely fantastic place.
Melanie was there to greet us as we were later than we said we would be, and made us welcome as soon as we arrived.
We will be going back again, had a fantastic break.

Brian & Julie, Warrington & Liverpool, England,

Compact very comfy accommodation in a great Cornish village with excellent view of Fowey and the sunsets on the waterfront.
Excellent location and wonderful hosts.
Thank you.

Tracey & Paul, Coventry, England,

Had the most fantastic stay at the boathouse! The accommodation is stunning, you know a lot of love has gone into it. It’s so convenient to hop onto the ferry across to Fowey which takes a few minutes. However it’s beautiful enough from the boathouse itself and our highlight was swimming in the sea straight from the yard. Melanie and Stubbles were so welcoming and helpful and we’d love to come back!

Rachel & Andrew - Newcastle upon Tyne, England,

What a view! This was a beautiful place to stay in a part of Cornwall we had never been to. The place has been done to a high standard and the nautical touches throughout made this place stand out from everywhere we have ever stayed. It is well situated as it is a very short walk to catch the ferry taxi to Fowey and very close to a shop and pub. The noise of the water whilst falling asleep was so relaxing and I miss it already. Thanks for letting us stay

Chloe & Scott - England,

We had a fantastic stay in the beautiful boathouse. Perfect location, lovely hosts and a wonderful home - we can’t wait to go back.

Mark & Rachel - Sunbury-on-Thames, England,

Mary & James - London, England,

Be prepared to be wowed! A fantastically peaceful stay that is easy on the eyes. Melanie & Stubbles were outstanding hosts! They made every effort to ensure a comfortable stay. They were so polite and accommodating. The Tangier Quay boat house is a magical experience.
A clean, tidy, and well-decorated space, it was an absolute pleasure to stay. There were so many special touches that we appreciated. We particularly loved the stories attached to some of the items decorating the boat house. The view of the harbour is exquisite and the sound of the water while laying in bed was a special experience. Lots of walks and little beaches nearby will be sure to impress anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Be sure to pop over to Fowey using the very reliable ferry service as well as take advantage of the pubs and restaurants offerings. Simply put, we loved our stay! such an IG experience. We'll definitely be back!

Miguel & Jenny - South Africa,

What a stunning stay! Melanie was an incredible host, very quick to respond to questions before we arrived, met us on arrival - even stood in a parking spot to save it for us as we arrived into the village! Melanie told us about the history of the place and the welcome book has lots of recommendations for walks and places to go locally. The cottage itself is beautifully styled but while also being very comfortable/homely. We stayed 4 nights, loved waking up to that view and watching the boats on the estuary go by. Just all round fantastic! Thank you for having us!

Tasha & Josh - London, England,

Blissful week spent at the beautifully converted boathouse - stunning views from the property and we could swim straight off the end of the patio. Beautiful walks from the door, friendly locals, and a great variety of dining in Polruan, Bodinnick and Fowey. Couldn’t ask for more.

Tracy & Al - Kent, England,

We had a wonderful few days in Melanie’s beautiful boathouse. It was total bliss lying in bed at night: looking over the glimmering estuary and hearing the waves lapping on the beach. The setting is idyllic and the boathouse tiny but perfect. We loved it!

Rosemary & Pete - Ilminster, Somerset, U.K.,

It is difficult to do justice to this fantastic place - from the thoughtfulness of the hosts, to the truly unique situation of the boathouse, to the brilliant way it’s been renovated to …..the view!!!! The views - endless, fascinating, ever changing. We couldn’t have loved it more. Highly recommended and then some!

Virginia, Shaftesbury, Dorset, England,

This is such a beautiful place to stay! It's got such picturesque views to look out on each day. Melanie and Stubbles were great hosts and kindly checked in to make sure everything was okay. Cannot fault this stay at all - thank you so much 😊

Natasha & Stuart, England,

A hidden gem in the heart of Polruan. A brilliant stay with picturesque views of the harbour and you could not be any more central. Melanie and Stubbles were amazing hosts who were on hand with any questions or assistance - the place has everything you need and felt larger than expected! The calming sound of crashing waves to send you to sleep and seagulls to wake you in the morning was definitely an experience. Overall a fantastic stay and cannot wait to come back

Aidan & Vanessa, Surrey, England,

The Boathouse is everything we wanted it to be - it looked great on the site, the reviews were brilliant, so we had high expectations and The Boathouse delivered in spades!!!!
The holiday was great, we had been to Cornwall before, but not this area - Polruan is very picturesque but very steep, - the ferry over to Fowey only takes a couple of minutes and well worth it - Fowey is a gem. The Boathouse has been converted by the hosts and the attention to detail is faultless - very comfortable and everything you need. Being able to sit on the patio with the water lapping against the wall is wonderful.
And then there's the wonderful hosts - Mel and Stubbs, they were absolutely wonderful, so friendly, just the nicest most genuine couple you could hope to have as your hosts. They went above and beyond to make our holiday special . . . suffice to say - They made our holiday

Geoff & Alison, St Andrews, Scotland,

Thank you Mel and Stubbs for being such welcoming hosts. The boathouse is so well equipped and cared for and has been refurbished with great attention to detail. Perfect location!

Denise, Tatsfield, England,

We stayed for two nights at the boathouse, and had a fantastic time from start to finish. The place is full of absolutely amazing details, we felt like we needed more time just to appreciate it all! The area has loads of things to do and is very beautiful, the hosts were a pleasure to talk to and meet, overall an amazing experience!

Joe & Fran, England,

Wow! What a Gem of a place!
I found this amazing place on Instagram and was easily influenced, it only sleeps two so we couldn’t take the children so we decided a break alone was needed just so we could try the boathouse and we were not disappointed. The host was a joy from the moment of enquiry to waving us off up the Cornish village lane. Every detail in the boathouse has been considered it is most definitely a place to relax and slow down the mind, we played lots of card games with a drink and the view. The walks from the boathouse are great too, we are not walkers but enjoyed exploring the locality on a 6 mile route. The village is great it’s beautiful and unspoilt. Two pubs, a shop and a bakery you need nothing else really. The view is amazing from the moment you wake up until you rest again at night. If you are considering booking here do it, you will not be disappointed.

Louise & Michael, Poole, Dorset, England,

I stayed at the Boathouse as a little break for myself. Wow, it was the perfect wind down place! Beautiful views, lovely local walks and easy access to Fowey. The Boathouse was well equipped with everything I needed and the owners were really helpful and even chopped my logs smaller for me! The bed was really comfy and the sound of the sea lapping around me was blissful. I will go again and would recommend friends.

Emma Lloyd, Somerset, England,

Hidden gem!

Tim & Lucy, London, England,

The boathouse is a unique and fun place to stay. It is super clean and well presented.
It's a great use of a small space.
Very friendly and helpful hosts.
Thank you so much!

Davey, Combe Hay, U.K.,

We have just returned home from a brilliant stay in Polruan. The boathouse is right on the harbour and has fantastic views out to Fowey. It is great to just watch the world go by.
The boathouse is tucked away with a private entrance and close to all ameneities- shop, ferry and the pub!
Inside awaits a beautifully made and decorated interior. The attention to detail is perfect and it is modern and homely. There is also historical peices that are explained in the guest book.
We used the boathouse to relax, listen to the sound of the waves, cliff walk, explore Polruan and eat and drink at local pubs. There is also steps down to the beach just by the front door so we brought our paddle board and were able to do that - brilliant to be so close to the sea.
All in all a great experience - thank you both very much! we will be back!
