Tangier Quay

A Unique Cornish Boathouse

Tangier Quay Boathouse is a 16th century converted boat shed nestled on the Polruan waterfront on the breathtakingly picturesque Fowey Estuary.

The original walls feature locally quarried Cornish stone and have been standing in excess of 400 years.

Our cosy one bedroom harbourage offers guests an eclectic mix of old and new: the nautical inspired interior featuring historic, contemporary and vintage pieces.

Living Area

Sit back on our armchairs and admire the view or catch up on the latest Netflix shows on the smart TV.

Choose from our selection of board or card games; browse our selection of Cornish guide and history books whilst listening to music on Alexa: a perfect way to while away a rainy afternoon.

From October until the end of March the wood burning stove will be laid ready for you to light with some additional kindling and logs to get you started. Replenishments are available at Polruan Stores and The Lugger Inn next door during these cooler months. If you require a fire in the summer months you’ll need to bring your own kindling and logs.
We also have underfloor heating throughout the ground floor!
Please note that whilst you'll have Alexa and Netflix the wifi can be temperamental on personal devices due to our ancient stone walls; thus we cannot guarantee connectivity! We look forward to finally having cable in these parts one day!

Kitchenette

The fully equipped kitchenette with fridge (inc small freezer box with ice cubes ready for your drinks), microwave/grill, halogen hob and washing machine (please note no oven) is a perfect place to prepare drinks and snacks.

The breakfast bar featuring ergonomic stools with back rests offers a comfortable perch to enjoy coffee and cocktails alike.

Bedrooms

On the mezzanine level drift into a deep, sea air induced sleep in the double bed, adorned with luxury 400 thread count Egyptian cotton linens.

The bedroom is equipped with USB sockets to charge your phones and vintage boat cleats to hang your clothes on and chest of drawers.

Relax with a book or while away the hours watching the hustle and bustle of the harbour.
Please note that the bedroom has a sloping ceiling so watch your head!

Shower Room

Our shower room features gorgeous deep green opalescent tiles to evoke the colour of the sea and soothing rain shower with handheld attachment.

The bulkhead light, porthole and bathroom accessories are vintage pieces from decommissioned ships.

Enjoy our handmade guest bars from Wild Cornish Soap or Sapooni.

Please note: if you’re well over 6ft the boathouse may not be ideal for you!

The Yard

Our spacious waterfront yard is a perfect place to sit with a drink and watch the hustle and bustle of the harbour and of course the sunset. You’ll have your own table and comfortable chairs with cushions.

Please note that this is a space shared with us as we live in the boathouse next door. You may see us pop out to water the plants or pull the boat in. We have an affectionate little Border Terrier cross called Sunshine, he loves our guests and likes to sun himself in the yard. If you don't like dogs just let us know and Sunshine will make himself scarce.

Eating Out

Polruan boasts two historic pubs - The Lugger Inn is right next door and The Russell Inn up the steps and turn left. Currently only The Lugger Inn is offering food with dine in and takeaway options.

As you walk off the quay you’ll find Jam First is our marvellous local cafe offering breakfasts, cream teas, pasties, sandwiches, homemade cake and coffee. A little further up the hill: Kitty's Koffiji Bakery and Café, newly opened Easter 2023.

Across the water the town of Fowey offers a plethora of pubs and restaurants for dining out.

Shopping

Next door to the boathouse is The Winkle Picker Post Office and shop selling everyday items, gifts, beach goods and local ice cream. A short walk up the hill Polruan Stores sells groceries, deli goods, wines and spirits, newspapers and much more. Across the water in Fowey is a unique selection of independent gift and clothing shops.
